Emmit
Emmitt Checotah, a half-breed Indian, finds himself in prison for killing the man who rapes his wife. He is charged with manslaughter. A sole friend helps him receive only a five-year sentence and stands by him as he finishes his sentence. Fearing Emmitt might seek revenge on the town and some of its citizens when he is released, his friend, Col.Jacobs, seeks the help of Jack Bashe. Jack had made friends with the Colonel earlier when they broke up a horse-stealing bunch. The Colonel asks Jack to come to Mississippi to offer Emmitt a job on his Wyoming ranch to get Emmitt away from the people who caused him to be sent to prison. Jack learns Emmitt's wife is murdered right before Emmitt is released, and also, the person who killed her is murdered. Civil War lost treasure is in the mix, and Jack and Emmitt work to solve the crimes and hunt for the treasure.
